San Diego Zoo

One of the top zoos in the world, San Diego is also famous for its Giant Pandas, one of only four U.S. zoos with pandas.

Located only 6 miles from the 1906 Lodge at 2920 Zoo Drive in Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo is more than a zoo: it is a sanctuary for thousands of animals, a landscape of rare plants from all climates and a living classroom that entertains as well as educates.

The San Diego Zoo offers a guided bus tour of the grounds, and the Skyfari aerial tram gives guests a bird’s-eye view of the 100-acre facility. At the Wegeforth Bowl and Hunte Amphitheatre, guests can watch animals such as sea lions and wolves, that can’t be seen anywhere else in the Zoo, show off some of their natural behaviors. The Zoo has an array of restaurants from gourmet to casual as well as a variety of shops.

Guaranteed to be wild, and probably a little bit crazy, the San Diego Zoo’s Nighttime Zoo festivities run June 25 through September 5, 2011. The extended hours of Nighttime Zoo – from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm – give guests more time to visit the more than 4,500 rare and endangered animals at the Zoo. (619) 231-1515
