Biking in San Diego & Coronado
Whether you own a racing bike or want to rent a California Beach Cruiser, we’ve got miles and miles of paths and streets to enjoy. Our guests love biking in San Diego & Coronado.
Rent bikes at Holland’s Bicycles, 977 Orange Avenue, (619) 435-3153 or Surreys (capacity up to 4 people) at Bikes & Beyond, 1201 First Street, (619) 435-7180.
Take a leisurely ride through the quaint streets of Coronado, enjoying the myriad of architecture styles and beautiful gardens, especially in the spring. Access from the 1906 Lodge to the other end of the island is provided on a bike path that even takes you under the magnificent Coronado Bridge. Great views of the Golf Course, San Diego Bay, Coronado’s Tideland’s Park, and downtown San Diego.
Looking for a workout? Take the 7 mile one way Silver Strand Bayshore Bikeway. Pass the Coronado Community Center and beautiful Glorietta Park that's perfect for an afternoon picnic. Following the corridor with shorelines and sand dunes on both sides you'll pass the U.S. Naval Amphibious Base (where Navy SEALs train), and then a half-mile nature path with observation decks and interpretive signs. Beyond the Silver Strand state beach is the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge, which contains the majority of the remaining wetlands, mudflats and eelgrass beds in San Diego Bay.
Once a year you’ll have an opportunity to ride your bike over the Coronado Bridge. The 2012 Bike the Bay event is scheduled for August 26,2012 (619) 269-6873
Once you’ve explored Coronado’s bike paths, it is easy to take your bike to San Diego, either on the Ferry or a city bus.
