Sue's Favorite Pumpkin Bread
I'm not much of a cook most of the year but when Thanksgiving rolls around, I'm in the kitchen baking loaf after loaf of pumpkin bread.Â So this year we will be baking my recipe at the 1906 Lodge.Â I invite you to give my recipe a try.Â Or comment with your favorite recipe! Ingredients: 1 1/2 sticks of butter,Â softened 2 cupsÂ sugar 3 tablespoons molasses 4 eggs 2/3 cup orange juice 2 cups pumpkin puree 3 1/3 cups flour 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 2 tablespoons baking soda 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground cloves Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.Â Cream butter, sugar and molasses.Â Beat in eggs one at a time.Â Add orange juice and pumpkin.Â Mix 1/3 cup flour with the baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves.Â Mix this into the wet ingredients thoroughly.Â Mix in the remaining flour.Â Â Spoon into two 9" or three 8" buttered loaf pans.Â Bake one hour or until a toothpick comes out dry.Â Cool in the pans for 10 minutes and then turn out onto racks.Â Alternatively, you can pour the batter into 7 baby loaf pans (5 3/4") and bake about 40-45 minutes.Â It's a great size for hostess gifts.
